“Like other emerging biometric card solutions, Smartmetric’s features an embedded fingerprint sensor that can be used to authenticate the cardholder during transactions.”
Smartmetric will launch its biometric card solution in September, the company has announced.
The news comes just a couple of weeks after SmartMetric announced a technological enhancement that would improve its production process, and only several days after its announcement that it had teamed up with an Argentina-based card manufacturer.
Like other emerging biometric card solutions, Smartmetric’s features an embedded fingerprint sensor that can be used to authenticate the cardholder during transactions. In announcing the card’s September launch, the company emphasized that the biometric authentication system is designed to power on “the moment the user touches the card’s fingerprint sensor.” Smartmetric also noted that the card runs on an internal, rechargeable battery.
Smartmetric’s announcement also pointed to an enhancement of an LED light built into the card that is designed to glow red or green depending on whether authentication is successful. The LED light is now 20 times brighter than the first model, ensuring that it can be “seen easily outside in the daylight,” the company’s statement said.
