“News of the card’s production comes after SmartMetric’s announcement in May that it had won a contract to provide biometric access control cards, based on the same technology, to an academic institution through distribution partner Grupo Datco.”
SmartMetric‘s biometric card solution is now in production, the company has announced.
Like other emerging solutions in the nascent biometric cards market, SmartMetric’s features an embedded fingerprint sensor, allowing for the authentication of a cardholder during a transaction. In a statement announcing that the card solution is now being manufactured, SmartMetric emphasized its potential in fighting CNP, or “Card Not Present”, fraud, which most often occurs in online transactions.
“The SmartMetric solution to fight online CNP card fraud uses the power of its biometric technology platform in a simple and effective solution that doesn’t require changes to existing processing methods or payments infrastructure,” explained SmartMetric CEO Chaya Hendrick, adding that the solution can be used in both debit and credit cards.
News of the card’s production comes after SmartMetric’s announcement in May that it had won a contract to provide biometric access control cards, based on the same technology, to an academic institution through distribution partner Grupo Datco.
SmartMetric’s announcement gave no indication as to the scale of production for the biometric card solution, but Hendrick has previously asserted that the company has seen “a great deal of interest” in its solution.
