Feitian is planning to release biometric cards that feature Fingerprint Cards technology. The partnership will cover both payment and access control cards, while the cards themselves will be built with FPC’s second generation T-Shape sensor module and its BEP software offering.
The development builds on the existing relationship between Feitian and FPC. Feitian placed FPC’s original T-Shape sensor in a biometric card all the way back in 2018, and has since deployed FPC technology in biometric security keys designed to meet the latest FIDO standards. Feitian also started licensing FPC’s BEP biometric software platform in early 2020.
The second generation T-shape sensor module, on the other hand, made its debut later in that same year. The T2 received the approval of China’s Bank Card Test Center shortly thereafter, and would later clear the requirements for Mastercard’s Fingerprint Sensor Evaluation Process.
According to FPC, the T2 is appealing to manufacturers because it can be integrated relatively easily, and in a way that reduces waste and overall production costs. The sensor also consumes very little power once the card has been sent to an end user.
“Feitian has once more chosen to work with us and our proven biometric solution, which will guarantee high performance, quality, and security,” said FPC Payments and Access President Michel Roig. “I strongly believe that this next-generation solution has the potential to be a gamechanger in the biometric smartcard industry, delivering improved cost-efficiency, increased image quality and transaction speed as well as improved power efficiency.”
“Fingerprints have the leading biometric solution on the market,” added Feitian VP Yan Yan. “The collaboration resulting in this next generation biometric payment and access cards will ensure a product with a wide range of possibilities for our customers’ needs.”
FPC recently released a survey that suggests that the biometric payment card market has accelerated in the past few years. The company has already delivered the T2 for card projects all over the world.
