“SAFR’s flagship technology revolves around the use of facial recognition to identify individuals in security camera feeds.”
SAFR, RealNetworks’ facial recognition company, has announced the appointment of a new executive to help it expand growth in the Middle East. Walter Candelu is now the Area Vice President for the region.
Candelu comes to the company from a previous position as the Head of Sales & Business Development for G4S, which he held from 2016 to this year. Before that, he was Commercial Director for another security-focused organization, Securitas UAE, from December of 2015 to October of 2016.
In his role with SAFR, Candelu will be focused on expanding the company’s network of resellers and partners, and growing its sales and marketing programs in the Middle East. He will be heading a new regional office located in Dubai.
SAFR’s flagship technology revolves around the use of facial recognition to identify individuals in security camera feeds. It has primarily been marketed as a biometric surveillance tool, but it also can be used to identify registered subjects such as employees of a given workplace.
In a statement, RealNetworks SVP of International Sales Jose Larrucea emphasized the growth potential for this kind of solution in the Middle Eastern market, and also highlighted Candelu’s experience and background with respect to his new role.
“Walter’s knowledge of the security and loss prevention industry across the Middle East combined with his engineering background makes him a great fit for our team,” he said. “The Middle East video surveillance market is set to grow 17% per year with over 50 million cameras installed by the end of 2021. Walter is uniquely qualified to help security professionals use AI to capitalize on their infrastructure investment.”
The appointment’s announcement comes shortly after RealNetworks’ launch of a new version of the SAFR solution that is compatible with the AXIS Camera Application Platform.
