Safetrust Launches Aliro Credential for Gradual Access-Control Migration

Glowing digital padlock icon with network grid lines representing cybersecurity

Safetrust has introduced a physical credential designed to help organizations migrate from proprietary access-control systems to the open Aliro standard without replacing all of their existing readers at once.

The Aliro 1.0 Migration Credential can operate with legacy access readers while also carrying digital certificates controlled by the issuing organization. This allows an enterprise to introduce standards-based credentials before completing a wider hardware replacement program.

Aliro is a Connectivity Standards Alliance specification for mobile and wearable access credentials. It defines how a phone, wearable device or compatible card can communicate with a reader across technologies including near-field communication.

Safetrust says administrators can enroll the new card with an NFC tap and update its specifications or certificates by presenting it to a desktop reader or an NFC-enabled phone. The credential can support both building access and browser-based authentication workflows.

That combination is intended to reduce the need for separate credentials for physical entry and digital login. Safetrust says organizations may be able to use the card for strong authentication in place of issuing an additional FIDO2 security token for some users.

The company also supports provisioning credentials into Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet and its own mobile wallet. A physical card can therefore serve as a bridge into a mobile-credential program while an organization maintains compatibility with older doors and readers.

Aliro-based products are beginning to enter commercial access deployments. Ultraloq recently received Aliro certification for wallet-based tap-to-unlock smart locks, demonstrating how the specification can extend from enterprise entry systems to connected locks.

The access-control market is also linking mobile credentials more closely with identity governance. SwiftConnect’s acquisition of HID SAFE combined mobile access with visitor and identity-management capabilities, while hotels are adding room keys to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.

Safetrust has made the migration credential available through distributors, with online retail availability planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. Organizations can begin with the physical card on existing infrastructure, then add phone-based credentials as readers and policies are updated. The same organization-managed certificate structure remains available across the migration stages for physical access and digital sign-in workflows.
