Restaurant group Founders Table has announced a partnership with biometric screening specialist CLEAR to use its Health Pass by CLEAR solution to help with the safe reopening of its restaurants amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, beginning with a pilot project at Chopt in Washington, D.C. and a Dos Toros location in New York City.
For the pilot, more than 30 employees between the two restaurants will use Health Pass to conduct daily health screening routines from their mobile devices. It works by having each individual authenticate their identity using the biometrics available to them on their device — so face, fingerprint or iris recognition — and then answering a CDC-guided health quiz. Their biometric data and the results of their quiz are then uploaded to their test provider, where the results are verified and a decision is made about whether to allow them to come to work.
“CLEAR was created to address a major public need following 9/11. Now, with the introduction of Health Pass, we are helping businesses and restaurants leverage technology to safely bring back their frontline employees,” said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker. “We are proud to partner with Chopt and Dos Toros restaurants to help put people first by creating safer environments for their hard working teams.”
The use of biometric technologies to help with the reopening of the economy has grown in recent months, with a number of providers emerging with their own takes on health screening. Temperature screening — which the Health Pass system is also capable of — is another popular form of biometric access control that many businesses are turning to in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
CLEAR has been deploying its biometric kiosks at airports for some time now, where they enable expedited check-in by allowing people to undergo a biometric scan instead of going through the longer traditional identity verification process. Health Pass builds upon this experience, but could prove to be better suited for the food service industry because it doesn’t rely on a kiosk, and so employees can authenticate and complete the health assessment remotely.
“We are thrilled to partner with CLEAR on this groundbreaking program that gives both our employees and customers the peace of mind they need during these challenging times,” says Chopt and Dos Toros Chief Marketing Officer Julie Atkinson. “The health and safety of our customers and employees remains our number one priority.”
