New Redrock iOS App Enables Biometric Web Logins

Redrock’s PalmID Agent software is now available through the Apple App Store. The app is intended to serve as the front-end component of the PalmID Identity Provider, and will allow people to use iOS devices as part of a passwordless login process on web channels.

PalmID uses standard RGB or infrared cameras to capture a user’s palm print or their subdermal veins. The new PalmID Agent app, meanwhile, essentially turns a smartphone into the username for an online account. With the app installed, users will be able to use their phone to scan a QR code when they want to sign in to an online application. They will then be prompted to scan their palm using the phone’s camera to complete the authentication process. That biometric scan eliminates the need for a more traditional password.

The solution can also be used to replace alternative forms of authentication like One-Time Passcodes, and is strong enough to protect sensitive interactions like payments and password recovery. Both the PalmID Agent and the PalmID Identity Provider are integrated with the Microsoft Active Directory B2C service for customer-facing websites, with the release of the app representing the completion of that integration process.

He went on to note that PalmID is a contactless authentication solution, which should make the app particularly appealing in the current public health environment. Redrock has already waived the PalmID licensing fee for essential organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Q5id recently integrated PalmID into its Proven Identity Management solution, while HYPR has deployed it to safeguard its cloud authentication platform. Shanghai’s FalconPro has also teamed with Redrock to develop new products for the payments industry.
