Razer Partners with World ID to Combat AI Bots in Online Gaming

Razer has partnered with digital identity protocol World to combat the growing problem of AI bots in online gaming through a new human verification system. The collaboration will introduce “Razer ID verified by World ID” to help ensure authentic human players in gaming environments.

According to recent survey data, 59 percent of gamers regularly encounter unauthorized AI bots in online games, with 71 percent saying these bots are actively damaging multiplayer competition. The impact has become so severe that 18 percent of players report completely abandoning certain games due to bot interference.

The new verification system builds on World’s expanding digital identity technology, implementing secure single sign-on (SSO) verification to confirm human players while protecting privacy. This technology will allow developers to create dedicated “human-only” gameplay modes.

“Growing a verified community is key to fair play,” said Wei-Pin Choo, Razer’s Chief Corporate Officer. “To foster fair competition, developers must be able to build trusted, human-only game experiences that keep AI bots out.”

The initiative comes as World continues to expand its digital identity verification systems beyond traditional biometric methods. Game developers will benefit from enhanced anti-bot measures and streamlined player authentication, while also gaining tools to prevent in-game harassment through human verification.

TOKYO BEAST, a futuristic game set in 2124 Tokyo, will be the first title to integrate the new verification system. The game combines strategic battle mechanics with prediction-based elements and NFT features.

However, the partnership faces potential challenges, as recent regulatory actions aimed at World’s data collection methods highlight possible scrutiny over digital identity verification practices.

The verification system appears to address a clear market need, with 77 percent of gamers across all age groups emphasizing the importance of proving human identity in online gaming environments. Tiago Sada, Chief Product Officer at Tools for Humanity, emphasized that “World ID enables gamers to distinguish between authentic human interactions and AI-generated content, all while safeguarding their privacy.”
