World Network Launches World ID in Philippines Amid Growing Digital Identity Enthusiasm

World Network (formerly Worldcoin) has officially launched its World ID service in select cities in Bulacan province, Philippines, marking a significant expansion of its digital identity verification system. The launch comes as the Philippines experiences a 4,500 percent increase in deepfake-related identity fraud cases between 2022 and 2023.

The expansion enters a market where digital services are deeply integrated into daily life, with 96.2 percent of Filipino internet users aged 16-64 using Facebook monthly, and 86 percent of knowledge workers already using AI in their workflows.

“We are currently offering Proof of Human services in a closed beta, in partnership with a local partner,” stated Javier Tuiran, Communications Manager at Tools For Humanity, the developer behind World app. “This technology is crucial as it enables individuals to confirm their humanness in an AI-dominated world, granting them a digital ‘proof of human’ for the internet and access to the global digital economy.”

The launch follows World Network’s recent milestone of reaching 10 million verified users globally, achieved despite regulatory challenges in multiple jurisdictions. The platform has faced scrutiny in several countries, including Kenya, France, Portugal, Spain, Hong Kong, Brazil, and South Korea, primarily over concerns of its use of biometric data.

For privacy protection, World Network employs Anonymized Multi-Party Computation and zero-knowledge proofs, while immediately deleting images from the Orb device. According to Tuiran, the company stores biometric data only on users’ devices.

The Philippines’ digital identity landscape continues to evolve, with the Post Office launching its own digital ID system and the Department of Transportation implementing biometric systems at airports. World Network’s expansion adds to this growing ecosystem of digital identity solutions in the country.

The National Privacy Commission (NPC) has issued clarifications regarding World Network’s compliance with local data privacy laws, as the company plans for a nationwide rollout in the coming months. The success of this implementation could shape digital identity verification in the increasingly AI-driven global digital economy.
