CyberLink‘s biometric technology is now being used in a connected camera platform from QNAP Systems, the companies have announced.
Based in Taiwan, QNAP specializes in Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions, and also offers a value-added application that offers surveillance, access control, time tracking, and smart signage capabilities via connected IP cameras. Dubbed “QVR Face Link”, this solution can identify individuals with a 98 percent accuracy rate, even if they are wearing a face mask, thanks to CyberLink’s FaceMe biometric technology.
CyberLink has repeatedly demonstrated the efficacy of its facial recognition technology over the past year. In late 2020, the company achieved a top-ten ranking in the Facial Recognition Vendor Test, a renowned testing program carried out by the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), and in January, it attained the top accuracy ranking for a facial recognition algorithm developed outside of China.
CyberLink went on to achieve a top-three score in the International Conference on Computer Vision’s anti-spoofing challenge this summer, demonstrating FaceMe’s ability to detect presentation attacks in which fraudulent biometrics are used to try to fool an identification system.
In a statement announcing the integration, QNAP product manager Hanz Sung explained the synergies of the two companies’ combined technologies.
“QVR Face Link performs facial recognition and analysis on a NAS without the need to upload data to the cloud for further processing,” he said, adding later, “QVR Face Link can also be combined with services like QNAP QVR Pro for recording content management services or with QVR DoorAccess to become an access control and attendance management systems to effectively reduce the risk of contact infection by having to remove masks for facial identification.”
The integration means that CyberLink’s technology can now reach an extended end client base, with QNAP offering QVR Face Link to its customers through a tiered licensing plan.
