“The use of biometric POS terminals in India is expected to grow significantly and we believe we have the right products and technologies to capture that growth moving forward.” -Sunny Sun, General Manager of International Business, Telpo
NEXT Biometrics has further refined its positioning toward the Indian market with a new client specializing in Point-of-Sale hardware.
The client, Telpo, is based in China, but looking to take advantage of emerging opportunities in India thanks to the ongoing expansion of Aadhaar, the country’s ambitious biometric national ID program. A growing number of everyday services are being linked to Aadhaar, including banking and ATM transactions; and so Telpo is developing biometric POS terminals that will use fingerprint authentication.
That’s where NEXT Biometrics comes in, with Telpo having ordered fingerprint sensor modules from the firm, and expected to order more later. In a statement, NEXT Biometrics indicated that initial shipments will begin “later this quarter,” while “[p]otential volumes for the application could be several hundred thousand units in the coming quarters.”
Commenting on the arrangement, Telpo International Business general manager Sunny Sun explained, “The use of biometric POS terminals in India is expected to grow significantly and we believe we have the right products and technologies to capture that growth moving forward.”
NEXT Biometrics received STQC certification for its fingerprint sensors this past June, clearing the way for their use in Aadhaar. It also attained certification for its Level-0 (L0) Registered Device (RD) Service for Android at the end of last month, further extending its potential application opportunities in the Aadhaar market.
