PortalGuard Brings Multi-factor Authentication to Herkimer County, NY

BIO-key continues to make in-roads with county governments. The company has revealed that New York’s Herkimer County will now be using PortalGuard to streamline its authentication procedures for employees accessing critical resources.

According to BIO-key, the flexibility of the PortalGuard platform played a key role in the County’s decision. Herkimer administrators needed to implement Multi-factor Authentication to comply with stricter cybersecurity regulations, but were worried that a complex system would be confusing to employees who have varying levels of experience with modern cybersecurity practices. However, PortalGuard offers support for seventeen different authentication methods. The County’s IT department can deploy different factors for different teams, so administrators can choose the factors that make the most sense for their specific workflows.

The Herkimer partnership speaks to BIO-key’s recent efforts to expand its client base in the government sector. The company showcased PortalGuard at the National Association of Counties conference in July. It has since delivered the solution for the Orange County, Florida Elections Office, which indicated that PortalGuard’s ease of use made it ideal for a seasonal workforce with large numbers of volunteers with different access privileges.

PortalGuard has proven to be extremely popular with academic institutions. The platform itself comes with Single Sign-on and biometric authentication capabilities. BIO-key also updated the Admin Panel in mid-December to make it easier for administrators to manage permissions for individual end users.
