Pakistan Launches All-in-One Digital ID Kit with Advanced Biometric Features

Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has unveiled a new ‘All-in-One’ digital identity kit that integrates advanced iris scanning technology with multiple biometric features.

The comprehensive solution, developed jointly by NADRA Technologies Limited (NTL) and NADRA Technology Research (NTR), combines high-resolution camera capabilities, iris recognition, fingerprint scanning, and facial recognition technology in a single portable unit. The kit also features GPS functionality and mobile/Wi-Fi connectivity, housed in a rugged case designed for operation in various environmental conditions.

This latest development follows NADRA’s recent launch of nationwide biometric banking services and represents a continuation of the organization’s strategic expansion of digital identification capabilities.

The system operates on the Android 11 platform, ensuring compatibility with modern security protocols and applications.

The new kit’s applications extend across various sectors, including national identification programs, voter registration, border control, law enforcement, and financial services. This broad functionality aligns with Pakistan’s broader initiative to expand biometric verification capabilities throughout its national infrastructure.

NADRA plans to deploy these units across its registration centers nationwide, supporting enhanced electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) operations. The technology will be showcased at the upcoming ID for Africa Conference in Cape Town, highlighting its potential for international adoption.

The introduction of iris scanning technology is particularly significant, as it represents one of the three biometric identification methods internationally standardized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for e-passport use since 2006.
