Ory has announced a partnership with HID to deliver what the companies describe as an enterprise FIDO2-based identity platform designed to unify physical access and digital authentication under a single credential model. The companies are positioning the offering as a response to operational complexity created by separate systems for badge-based physical access and password-based digital access.

Ory’s announcement frames the platform as converged identity infrastructure, spanning both physical and digital security environments while relying on FIDO2 as the underlying authentication layer. In practice, the positioning aligns with a wider passkey and phishing-resistant authentication narrative, where FIDO-based credentials are presented as a replacement for passwords and shared secrets.

The companies describe the collaboration as focused on delivering a "one credential" concept for enterprise access, aiming to reduce the burden of managing multiple identity tools and credentials across workplace environments. Ory’s messaging emphasizes a common enterprise pain point: physical badges and digital passwords are typically managed separately, creating fragmented experiences for users and additional overhead for security and IT teams.

The partnership is also framed as a way to reduce password reset costs and help organizations move toward phishing-resistant authentication. FIDO2 is designed to support strong authentication using public key cryptography, limiting exposure to credential theft and replay attacks that remain common in enterprise breach patterns.

Ory’s partnership materials point to multiple deployment and licensing options and state general availability is expected in Q2 2026. HID is positioned as the physical access and enterprise security partner in the collaboration, while Ory brings its identity platform and authentication infrastructure.

The announcement reflects an emerging convergence trend in enterprise identity, where physical access control and logical access management are increasingly treated as part of a shared identity and credential layer. Large organizations have long struggled with fragmented credential stacks, particularly where badge issuance, building access, VPN authentication, and application access are managed by different systems.

By positioning the solution around FIDO2 and a unified credential approach, the companies are aligning with broader enterprise adoption efforts aimed at reducing password dependence and strengthening access assurance across the workforce.
