Oppo R9, R9+ Feature Tech from FPC, Precise Biometrics

Oppo’s newest smartphones, the R9 and the R9+, feature fingerprint biometrics technology from Fingerprint Cards (FPC) and Precise Biometrics. The devices each use an FPC1245 fingerprint sensor running Precise BioMatch Mobile algorithm software.

It isn’t the first time Oppo has partnered with Fingerprint Cards for the integration of biometric technology into its own hardware. Last summer, Oppo’s R7 Plus smartphone used an FPC1025 sensor running Precise BioMatch Mobile. At the time, Precise Biometrics CEO Håkan Persson commented that the integration demonstrated “a positive market development for fingerprint sensors in mobile devices,” an idea that almost seems quaint now that smartphone biometrics are so mainstream.

Indeed, FPC and Precise Biometrics have been at the forefront of the mobile biometrics boom, with their technologies—often paired together thanks ot a long standing licence agreement—being integrated into a wide range of devices. Now, both companies are seeking to ride this wave of enthusiasm into other markets such as smart cards, but these kinds of smartphone integrations are likely to continue nevertheless.
