Onfido has found another innovative FinTech application of its biometric onboarding technology, this time in the world of digital creators.
The company’s latest client is Fundof, whose eponymous platform is essentially designed to offer digital content creators an all-in-one fan page and tip jar. A given creator – such as a musician, for example, or an online gaming streamer – can set up a Fundof page containing all of their relevant online bio links. It will feature a built-in tipping functionality, and Fundof is now launching a free Visa debit card and payment account for use with a given Fundof profile.
The latter development is an important step for Fundof and its users. Enabling access to a free online payment card and account means that creators can instantly receive and spend the tips, donations, and other varieties of payments that they receive.
The functionality is being enabled by Onfido, in partnership with Intergiro, a provider of embedded banking APIs. End users will be prompted to upload a selfie photo along with images of their official identity documents (such as a driver’s license). Onfido’s technology will verify that the ID is genuine, and will use facial recognition to match it to the user’s selfie, thereby verifying the user’s identity.
The entire process is designed to take just half a minute, with the end result being the creation of a free payment account for the Fundof user.
“Fundof is all about seamless tipping and instant access to funds, and the only way to achieve this in a secure and trusted way was through this unique collaboration with Onfido and Intergiro,” explained Fundof co-founder Joakim Hultin. “We wanted to create the ultimate tool to help content creators get paid and for their loyal fans to be able to support with just one click on any platform.”
For Onfido, the collaboration offers the latest example of the versatility of its identity verification solution, which has been embraced by banks, remittances platforms, and even an Indian matchmaking platform, among other organizations.
The development also speaks to Onfido’s considerable traction in the European market. In a business update issued last month, Onfido revealed that it had seen a 130 percent revenue increase in Central Europe, and announced a partnership with Berlin’s WebID to further extend its reach in the DACH region. Fundof is headquartered in Lugano, Switzerland.
