Scrive has decided to take advantage of Onfido’s selfie-based identity verification capabilities. The company is an e-signature and document management specialist, and will be leveraging Onfido’s technology to provide better global coverage for its customers.
In that regard, the two companies note that while many European countries have introduced electronic identities (eID), the same is not necessarily true in other parts of the world. Scrive tech enables e-signatures for many of those European schemes, but the international utility is limited if they cannot deliver e-signatures in areas without a trusted eID program.
Onfido will help to bridge that gap. The company’s document recognition platform is compatible with more than 4,500 identity documents from 195 different countries. As a result, people all over the world will be able to use the service to take a photo of their official government ID and then take a selfie to confirm their identity before using Scrive.
“This is a game-changer for our customers”, said Scrive CEO Viktor Wrede. “In one quick leap, they now have a secure method for identifying their customers and partners almost anywhere in the world. The vast majority of countries don’t have a national eID like Swedish BankID. Even where eIDs are available, Onfido can provide an additional layer of security when required.”
“We bring trust to digital interactions worldwide, and we’re happy to support Scrive’s expansion into new markets,” added Onfido Co-Founder and CEO Husayn Kassai. “We deliver seamless access to online services that both detect and prevent fraudulent attempts while enabling the business to scale.”
Onfido recently completed its own digital identity pilot in the UK. Though some of its attention has been diverted towards immunity credentials, the company has continued to expand its business during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its latest clients include WorldRemit and the Sidehide hotel booking app.
