OMNIQ Corp. and NEC have announced a partnership aimed at enhancing public safety and security through the integration of facial recognition and other biometric technologies. The collaboration will merge OMNIQ’s machine vision and facial recognition systems with NEC’s biometric and data processing capabilities.
Their collaboration aims to support sectors such as law enforcement, transportation, and urban infrastructure by improving operational efficiency and response times. The partnership will leverage real-time data analytics and situational awareness features, intended for use by government agencies and private companies requiring enhanced security measures.
NEC’s facial recognition technology is widely recognized as one of the industry’s top performers, consistently achieving high rankings in independent evaluations. In a National Institute of Standards and Technology 1:N Identification test earlier this year, NEC’s algorithm scored the highest accuracy (99.88 percent) for matching mugshots against a large database, claiming top scores in multiple categories.
The company’s NeoFace system offers advanced features, including the ability to authenticate individuals in motion, process up to 100 people per minute, and incorporate movement patterns and clothing characteristics for enhanced accuracy. This technology is currently used in over 50 countries, including approximately 80 airports worldwide, and has been adopted by hundreds of law enforcement agencies globally.
That includes police organizations in the United Kingdom, where NEC’s technology was rigorously tested by the National Physical Laboratory to ensure its deployment would not result in discriminatory policing outcomes due to algorithmic bias. NeoFace was found to show no statistically significant demographic bias when used at its default settings.
In NEC’s and OMNIQ’s announcement of their partnership, the companies explained that it “follows the successful deployments of OMNIQ’s AI-based access control systems and the completion of key security projects.”
“NEC has been an exceptional partner, and together, we are targeting significant milestones,” said OMNIQ’s Executive Director of Sales, John Whiteman. “Our combined technologies provide a comprehensive solution for modern security challenges.”
Incorporated in 1973 and based in Salt Lake City, OMNIQ specializes in computerized and machine vision image processing solutions. The company offers products and services addressing critical needs in various sectors, including supply chain management, homeland security, public safety, traffic and parking management, and access control applications. It is also a leading specialty systems integrator, and a manufacturer and distributor of barcode labels, tags, ribbons, and RFID labels and tags.
