Suprema is boasting about its leading position in the biometrics sector. The company has been listed as the world’s top provider of biometric access control readers, at least when China is excluded.
The distinction comes courtesy of the market research firm Omdia, which lauded Suprema in its 2021 Access Control Database Analysis. That report found that Suprema now has a 13 percent share of the market for biometric access control devices, which is the largest share for any company outside of China.
Suprema, of course, has launched a number of biometric terminals over the years, most of which support some combination of face and/or fingerprint recognition. For example, the company added a fingerprint scanner to its X-Station 2 terminal earlier this month, while the FaceStation F2 terminal debuted last August and can identify users with a fingerprint or a face.
The Omdia report noted that COVID-19 has increased the global interest in contactless access control solutions, to the point that 15 million mobile credentials were downloaded over the course of 2020. In that regard, Suprema was also listed as a top provider of access control software and mobile access solutions in an A&S Magazine survey back in March.
“Suprema has grown into an integrated security platform provider that encompasses both hardware and software over the past 20 years since its foundation in 2000, and has solidified its leadership in the global market with seven overseas branches and 140 overseas partners,” said Suprema CEO Hanchul Kim. “We will continue to evolve as a market leader in integrated security and access control through innovation in the field of AI, deep learning, and big data.”
In addition to its biometric terminals, Suprema offers a Mobile Access solution that allows employees to store a digital credential on a smartphone. That credential can then be presented at a terminal as proof of identity when entering a secure facility.
