Ola is currently Kickstarting a new smart security camera with advanced movement detection and voice assistant capabilities. The device has already passed its $10,000 crowdfunding goal, and the first units are expected to ship in April of 2022.
In terms of basic utility, Ola performs many of the same functions as other home security systems. The device can be placed inside, or mounted outdoors (with an IP66 rating) to track people coming and going through the front door. The camera has Bluetooth and wireless connectivity, and has been integrated with an Ola app that allows people to check their camera feeds from a phone, a tablet, or a computer.
What sets the camera apart (according to Ola) is its computer vision, facial recognition, and voice search capabilities. For example, Ola is able to separate registered users from strangers that have broken into the house, and can even analyze body movement to detect different kinds of activity. The system is sophisticated enough to determine whether a prone person has fallen or is simply sleeping on the couch, or to distinguish the quick and jerky motions of an intruder from the more casual movements of pets and residents. It can also send an alert to the owner when it spots certain behaviors, such as a fall, a break in, or a panicked child.
The voice utility, meanwhile, makes it easier to sort through hours of security footage. Customers can use the phone app to make inquiries about events that have been recorded in the system, and Ola will respond with dates, time stamps, and answers about who was and was not present at the time. The platform uses natural language understanding technology, and is compatible with both Android and iOS operating systems.
The actual camera unit is equipped with a two-way microphone that allows people to speak to a person in the feed. The microphone also allows the camera to detect acoustic events like crying or breaking glass. Ola’s infrared range extends to roughly 25 meters.
Ola previously Kickstarted a front door lock with a fingerprint sensor back in 2015. Grand View Research has predicted that the physical security market will hit $171 billion in 2027.
