Blurams is pitching its Outdoor Pro surveillance cameras to people who are worried about security during the COVID-19 pandemic. The cameras boast facial recognition capabilities and can remember up to 16 different individuals, which will cover all family members and close friends for many households.
Though a home security system would seem to be a little redundant when everyone is working from home, Blurams notes that its system does have a two-way audio function that allows homeowners to speak with someone at the front door. For instance, they could direct a delivery driver to leave a package at a preferred location to make it easier to follow social distancing best practices. Small business owners can also install the cameras at their stores to improve security while their premises are unattended.
The camera comes with a built-in siren and strobe light to scare off intruders, and can be configured to send a notification to the owner’s phone whenever a stranger turns up at their door. Owners can use the partner app to blur out certain areas of the frame (such as a neighbor’s yard) to ensure greater privacy.
The Outdoor Pro is compatible with Alexa. Live and recorded videos can be viewed on an Apple Watch or an iOS or Android device, and the recordings themselves are stored in the cloud through Amazon Web Services. Blurams is offering the cameras at a 30 percent discount on Amazon for the month of April, though people will need to use the code STAYHOMECAM to take advantage of the $49.99 price point.
Of course, the Outdoor Pro is not the only face-based home security option currently on the market. Swann unveiled a new video doorbell in January, while Google released the Nest Hello all the way back in 2018. However, there are some privacy concerns about at-home surveillance systems, especially after it was revealed that the Amazon-owned Ring has partnered with more than 400 police departments to give law enforcement officers access to Ring footage.
