Japan’s biggest telecom has officially announced its plans to attend this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and it’s going to put artificial intelligence and 5G technologies in the spotlight.
Biometric technology will play an important role in NTT’s AI showcase. The company says one of its exhibits will be of “Smart Airport” solutions including a border control system based on facial recognition, while a “Smart City” public safety solution will consist of “a real-time people tracking system jointly developed with Panasonic.” Given that Panasonic showcased a facial recognition-based surveillance system at last year’s ISC West event in Las Vegas, there’s a good chance the solution it has developed with NTT will also leverage this technology.
Other AI solutions will include a machine learning system for agricultural operations and “smart technologies for factories,” according to NTT’s statement announcing its MWC19 plans.
As for 5G connectivity – an emerging area in which NTT has been highly active – NTT has a number of exhibits planned. One will showcase how 5G-enabled machinery can be used in construction; another will demonstrate a cloud-based AR sports stadium; and there will even be a medical operating theater powered by 5G technologies, the company says.
Mobile World Congress 2019 will run from February 25th to 28th at the Fira Gran Via and Fira Montjuïc, with NTT slated to showcase its solutions from booth 3D31 in Hall 3.
