Nomidio’s Biometric Authentication Tech Gets OpenID Connect Certification

Nomidio’s biometric authentication technology is now compliant with the OpenID Connect standard. The certification will allow web developers and cloud service providers to seamlessly switch from password-based logins to passwordless biometric authentication.

The Nomidio platform verifies user identities with face and voice recognition. It also generates a unique device ID and a private key that is stored within a web browser. The solution is intended to replace both passwords and less secure forms of two-factor authentication like one-time passcodes.

“If I log-on to my employer’s cloud service I need a password and my phone so I can confirm using two-factor authentication. The same is true for the services in my personal life. We have hundreds of digital identities, tons of passwords and personal data scattered everywhere,” said Nomidio Worldwide Sales Head Ben Todd. “Plugging Nomidio into the OpenID ecosystem solves this by giving each user one unified digital identity to log-on everywhere.”

OpenID Connect adds an identity layer to the OAuth 2.0 protocol. Now that Nomidio’s technology has been certified, businesses will be able to integrate face and voice recognition into their own customer and employee-facing applications.

“Businesses need biometric multi-factor authentication because it’s the only way to prevent employees from writing down and re-using passwords and sharing credentials,” added Nomidio Commercial Director Philip Black.

Nomidio added voice recognition capabilities through a partnership with Aculab in July. Auraya previously achieved OpenID certification with its own EVA voice biometrics platform.
