NEXT Places Biometric Fingerprint Module in New Aadhaar Mobile Printer

NEXT Biometrics has placed a thermal fingerprint sensor in a new device for the Indian market. The Vriddhi device is manufactured by BluPrints, and combines fingerprint authentication with a mobile printer to support various Aadhaar applications.

With Vriddhi, government and financial officials will be able to verify someone’s identity and issue a receipt when distributing resources or enrolling citizens in Aadhaar programs. In the past, that process usually required two separate devices (the fingerprint scanner and the printer), making the new all-in-one option a faster and more cost-effective alternative.

Vriddhi is built with an STQC-certified fingerprint module that can be used to enroll new users, and to verify their identity during subsequent interactions. The device is expected to boost financial inclusion in rural areas of the country, where there is still a large unbanked population.

“The collaboration with BluPrints is an important step for NEXT to enable long-term growth, with local hardware manufacturers providing smart biometric products and solutions supporting the digital initiative by the Government of India,” said NEXT CEO Peter Heuman.

Heuman detailed the collaboration in a new INSIGHTS series, and indicated that he will provide an update for shareholders and partners once the company has a better sense of the market and revenue potential for the Vriddhi device.

NEXT has gained considerable traction in India since achieving STQC certification in 2018, and has gone on to provide fingerprint sensors for multiple devices designed for the Indian market. The company has continued to fill Aadhaar orders throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
