NEXT Biometrics Nets Second Design Win From Belgian ICT Company

NEXT Biometrics is celebrating a new contract win that could blossom into big business in the European market in the years to come. Televic, a Belgian ICT firm, has integrated NEXT’s FAP 20 fingerprint sensor into a new access control product, and has now offered NEXT a second design win.

Founded in 1946 as a professional radio systems manufacturer, Televic has evolved to become an international provider of high-end communication systems, with four operating divisions focused on rail transportation, healthcare, business meetings, and education, respectively.

Televic embarked on the development of its new access control product nine months ago, according to NEXT, and it’s now ready for a commercial launch in select European markets. In a statement, NEXT explained that “volumes are estimated to be low” at the outset, with an initial launch in Belgium. But Televic is planning to extend the offering to additional countries throughout the year.

The new design win, meanwhile, suggests further business for Televic’s biometrics partner down the line.

“We have added one more design win to our extended and increasing customer list,” said NEXT Biometrics Sales and Marketing SVP Ulf Ritsvall. “At the same time, we are pleased to strengthen our collaboration with Televic. Our partner has developed promising high-security products for the industrial access control market.”

The contract is a win for Ritsvall, who joined NEXT Biometrics in September, coming to the firm from another fingerprint biometrics specialist, Fingerprint Cards. And the broader Televic partnership bodes well for NEXT’s European prospects as the company continues to extend its reach globally. In November, NEXT established a partnership with China’s SZC that would see a Point of Sale device integration bring its technology to the Latin American market; and earlier this year it received a $2.2 million order of FAP 20 fingerprint sensors from an Indian OEM.
