NEXT Biometrics says it has received three public-sector orders from Taiwanese and Malaysian government customers in Q2 for FAP20 fingerprint authentication sensors and a reader module, extending its presence in Asia-Pacific government identity programs.
The orders cover NEXT’s FAP20 fingerprint sensors, which are designed for government identity verification, digital authentication, and national digitalization applications. The company describes the initial order values as modest but says they represent entry points into recurring government procurement channels in both markets.
FAP20 refers to a Federal Bureau of Investigation certification standard for fingerprint sensors, specifying a minimum capture area suitable for single-finger authentication. NEXT’s FAP20 sensors are part of its Basalt product line, which the company has positioned for applications in digital banking, national ID programs, and government services.
The Taiwanese orders align with ongoing government digitalization efforts in the country, while the Malaysian orders connect to broader national identity and authentication infrastructure development. Both markets have active government digital transformation programs that require biometric hardware for citizen enrollment and service authentication.
NEXT Biometrics, headquartered in Oslo, has been working to build its presence in government and enterprise markets after pivoting from its earlier focus on notebook PC fingerprint sensors. The company launched its FAP 30 sensor with a 67 percent larger scanning area for higher-security applications, and its L1 Slim sensor targets digital banking security.
The company has also been developing full-screen fingerprint authentication technology through a partnership with Taiwan-based Giantplus Technology and has an ongoing collaboration with a major phone manufacturer on full-screen fingerprint solutions.
The APAC public-sector orders add to NEXT’s pipeline of government business, though the company notes that converting initial orders into sustained procurement relationships will depend on successful deployment outcomes and broader program timelines in both countries.
