Next Biometrics has selected Taiwan-based Giantplus Technology as a display partner to co-develop a first prototype of full-screen, anywhere-on-display fingerprint authentication technology. The company said the effort is aimed at demonstrating a fingerprint solution that can be integrated across a display surface rather than being limited to a defined sensor area.
Next Biometrics tied the program to a recent U.S. patent approval in November 2025 and described the collaboration as an R&D initiative intended to advance prototype development. Giantplus is positioned in the announcement as a supplier of small and medium-sized displays, supporting Next Biometrics’ objective of building a prototype suited to real-world display integration and future product pathways.
The companies said the goal is to conduct development work and showcase the resulting prototype at Mobile World Congress 2027 in Barcelona. The timeline indicates the work is focused on technology demonstration and long-horizon commercialization rather than an immediate product launch cycle.
Full-screen fingerprint authentication has been an ongoing target across the consumer device industry, particularly for smartphones, wearables, and other display-centric form factors. Many deployed under-display fingerprint sensors rely on constrained sensing zones, which can limit usability and placement flexibility. Next Biometrics is positioning its approach as enabling more permissive touch placement by allowing fingerprint capture anywhere on the display surface.
Next Biometrics included a financing update alongside the partnership announcement, reporting it raised a shareholder loan of approximately NOK 10 million. The company said around NOK 9 million of the loan was underwritten by named existing shareholders. Key terms outlined include a 12-month maturity and 20 percent interest paid in kind through issuance of new shares at a specified subscription price. The announcement also references a private placement mechanism linked to repayment.
The partnership with Giantplus combines sensor technology development with display integration expertise, reflecting a commercialization pathway where biometric sensing must align with display manufacturing constraints, durability requirements, and device design targets.
Next Biometrics has been pursuing fingerprint technology positioning across payment and device markets for several years, and the Giantplus partnership adds a display-focused track for future deployment scenarios where biometric capture is embedded directly into the user interface.
