NEXT Biometrics Launches FAP 30 Sensor With Larger Scanning Area for Secure ID and Payments

NEXT Biometrics has launched its latest fingerprint sensor, the FAP 30 “Granite,” introducing a 67 percent larger scanning area compared to its previous FAP 20 models. The new sensor is designed for use in high-security sectors including digital banking, national ID, remittances, and border control.

The FAP 30 sensor delivers improved accuracy, faster enrollment, and better performance in high-volume environments. Its expanded sensing area supports stringent standards such as FBI-PIV (FIPS 201) and Mobile ID, positioning it for applications where compliance and reliability are critical.

This product launch comes amid growing demand for robust biometric authentication technologies. Analysts forecast that biometric payment users will reach 3.5 billion globally by 2030, driving the need for higher-performing fingerprint sensors in banking, government services, and secure infrastructure.

The FAP 30 rollout builds on NEXT Biometrics’ recent momentum. Earlier this month, the company received a NOK 6.3 million (≈ USD 0.6 million) order for its ultra-thin L1 Slim sensors, followed by a major contract in India worth between NOK 55 and 107 million to support national ID and payments projects.

The company says the FAP 30’s enhanced capabilities reduce false rejections and increase enrollment success rates, making it ideal for secure environments that require consistent and accurate identity verification. The sensor adds to NEXT’s growing portfolio, including the recently launched L1 Slim, and supports a wide range of secure access, financial, and e-government use cases.
