A new China-based customer is going to usher NEXT Biometrics into the Latin American market, the fingerprint biometrics specialist has announced.
The client in question is SZC, which has designed a new Point of Sale device for which it has already secured a Latin America-based customer in the financial services sector. (The name of the customer has not been disclosed.) The POS device was designed to incorporate an active thermal fingerprint sensor from NEXT Biometrics.
“We have already managed to secure our first bank customer and I am confident that our new device has great market potential,” explained SZC’s CEO, identified in a statement as Mr. Chen. “We selected Next Biometrics as partner for our new POS devices due to the high security and slim formfactor provided by the active thermal sensors.”
The design win also entails an initial order, which will see 5,000 NEXT Biometrics sensors shipped during the fourth quarter of this year. NEXT says it expects recurrent purchase orders to be placed in 2022 and 2023.
“We are pleased that, SZC secured and opened up a new market for NEXT and our Access 200 sensors,” said NEXT Sales and Marketing SVP Ulf Ritsvall. “SZC has built yet another outstanding POS product secured with fingerprint sensors from NEXT Biometrics.”
The contract represents an early victory for Ritsvall, a former Fingerprint Cards marketing executive who joined NEXT Biometrics in September of this year.
It’s also obviously a big win for NEXT Biometrics as the company seeks to extend its market reach with respect to its fingerprint biometrics solutions. The company recently announced a new Asia-based client in the notebook computer business, which came on the heels of a multi-year contract from a European tech company. It has also gained traction in India’s burgeoning Aadhaar-driven biometrics market this year, among other areas.
