IBIA made headlines last week with the release of a new white paper urging rideshare companies to implement fingerprint based background checks. The association also announced four new members have joined its ranks. The FIDO Alliance made headlines too, announcing that there are now over 200 FIDO Certified products available for replacing passwords with strong authentication.

Fingerprint Cards (FPC) is often a fixture in the biometrics industry news, but last week the sensor manufacturer was particularly prominent. Along with longtime software partner Precise Biometrics, FPC announced that its technology was integrated into a significant number of mobile handsets, including the OnePlus 3, two new phones from Xaiomi, and the Meitu M6.

Daon was recognized with the 2016 NAFCU Services Innovation Award last week while mobile wallets and biometric banking rounded out the FinTech news. Samsung Pay, which uses fingerprint biometrics for authentication, launched in Singapore. Meanwhile, DCB Bank in India launched a biometric ATM in Bengalaru, and Fiserv introduced a palm-vein scanning solution for banks.

BioConnect’s eponymous biometric access management platform was deployed by by Netwise Hosting Ltd. in the UK last week, while its operating partner, Suprema, unveiled its BioEntry W2 reader. Biometric tablets were managing workplaces too, as we saw a case study from the MorphoTablet in the enterprise and authorities in the Zilla Panchayat began using biometric tablets to track attendance in schools.
