HID Global announced the launch of the OMNIKEY SE Reader Core module as the latest addition to its OMNIKEY platform, which aims to unify and optimize the company’s access reader offerings.
This new module offers advancements in access control technology through its support for mobile credentials. Designed for integration with existing systems, the OMNIKEY SE Reader Core aims to improve user convenience and security in various settings, including workplaces, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.
A significant feature of the OMNIKEY SE Reader Core is its compatibility with mobile phone credentials. Developers can design access control systems that use digital IDs stored in platforms like Apple Wallet. This allows for both physical and logical access using mobile devices, potentially eliminating the need for physical tokens.
The OMNIKEY SE Reader Core module prioritizes mobile-friendliness by incorporating compatibility with Apple’s ECP technology, ensuring smooth integration with smartphone credentials. Additionally, the module boasts a compact design for easier integration, and a comprehensive developer toolkit is included to streamline deployment and updates.
Security remains a key focus. The OMNIKEY SE Reader Core leverages a Secure Element and adheres to industry security standards. This foundation enables a wide range of contactless authentication applications within the HID ecosystem. Users can potentially experience secure and convenient access control for elevators, doors, EV charging stations, vending machines, and more.
HID’s announcement of the OMNIKEY SE Reader Core demonstrates HID’s focus on evolving access control technology through its support for mobile credentials, even as the company continues to pursue adjacent technological areas such as biometric access control. On the latter note, HID announced earlier this year that it had teamed up with Olea Kiosks on a face-scanning “Olea Hypermodular Kiosk model.”
