NEC Corporation plans to showcase a number of smart city solutions at this week’s IT TRANS exhibition, the company has announced.
The event is dedicated to smart, digital-focused solutions for urban transportation, and accordingly, NEC and will highlight its Fleet Management Solution, its Automatic Fare Collection System, and its tile-based digital display solutions, which can be used for “real-time passenger information,” as the company explained in a statement announcing its IT TRANS plans.
NEC will also highlight its facial recognition technology, which offers a range of smart city applications. For example, NEC recently used its NeoFace solution in a smart city trial of its Intelligent Complex Event Processing platform on Singapore’s Jurong Island, where the facial recognition technology helped to detect suspicious activity for security purposes. Another Jurong Island trial combined facial recognition with fingerprint scanning as a means of registering visitors to the island. More broadly, NEC North America SVP Raffie Beroukhim explained in an interview with FindBiometrics that his firm believes its technology can be used to help travelers “move seamlessly through transportation spaces”, which of course points to NEC’s interest in IT TRANS.
The event is slated to run from March 6th to 8th at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre in Karlsuhe, Germany.
