This year’s Mobile World Congress finds Aware, Inc. in transition. Speaking to FindBiometrics President Peter O’Neill, the company’s business development consultant for Europe, Carl-Michael Heüveldop, explains that the past year has seen the company shift its focus from the government sector to the commercial market, with Aware now concentrating on the mobile applications of its biometric technology for customers in the banking and retail sectors, as well as mobile network operators.
Heüveldop says that consumer demand is forcing companies in these areas to adapt to technological innovations, and suggests that this had led to a propitious transition for Aware, which started to receive its first orders and contracts from the commercial sector toward the end of last year. Looking to the year ahead, Heüveldop is enthusiastic about the mainstreaming of biometrics as can be seen in mobile devices; biometric technologies are now in the “public domain”, he says.
