Mobile Biometrics, Payment Cards, and an Expert Panel: This Week’s Top Stories

Mobile biometrics were top of mind this week, judging by the most popular articles in FindBiometrics’ latest roundup. But biometric payment cards and an insightful webinar also got some time in the spotlight.

Starting with mobile biometric technologies, though: readers showed a lot of interest in the news that Samsung’s Galaxy S21 smartphone features biometric matching software from Suprema. The flagship mobile device features an under-display fingerprint sensor from Qualcomm, and it’s running Suprema’s BioSign 4.0 fingerprint recognition algorithm:

Mobile facial recognition also got a lot of attention, thanks to Yoti. The company announced that it had reached a major milestone with its digital identity app, which supports the use of facial recognition and document reading to verify the identities of end users. The app has now been downloaded more than 10 million times:

In other selfie biometrics news, FacePhi has made further inroads in the APAC market. The remote onboarding specialist has made its debut in Vietnam, thanks to a partnership with investment specialist Pinetree Securities. It’s an important development for the Spain-based firm as it continues its global expansion beyond the LATAM market in which it has attained such a high profile:

As for biometric payment cards, readers showed sustained interest this week in the recent news that Mastercard had issued a Vendor Letter of Approval for a biometric payment card from KONA I. The card, which features an embedded fingerprint sensor, enables biometric transaction authorization thanks in part to software provided by Precise Biometrics:
