Malaysia Mandates MyDigital ID Login for Transport Services App MyJPJ

Malaysia will require users of the MyJPJ transport services app to log in through MyDigital ID starting May 1, expanding the role of the national digital identity system in public services.

MyJPJ, operated by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), provides access to vehicle registration, driver licensing, and other road transport services. Users who have not yet registered for MyDigital ID will need to create an account and register their devices before the switchover date.

MyDigital ID is Malaysia’s national digital identity platform, functioning as a single sign-on system for government services. The platform uses biometric and document-based identity verification to authenticate users, replacing legacy login systems across participating agencies. The government has been accelerating its rollout across public services and into the banking sector as part of a broader digital transformation strategy.

The mandatory transition follows earlier integration of MyDigital ID with other government platforms. Malaysia’s digital ministry has positioned the system as central infrastructure for the country’s public-sector digitization, aiming to reduce identity fraud, simplify access to government services, and establish a unified authentication layer across departments.

The move is part of a broader regional trend. Across Southeast Asia, governments have been expanding national digital identity systems into everyday public services. Singapore has trialed facial biometrics at border crossings, while Mexico has adopted digital identity rules for mobile services. Indonesia has also expanded its digital ID (IKD) platform for citizen authentication.

The government has encouraged citizens to complete MyDigital ID registration ahead of the May 1 deadline to avoid disruption to transport services. The registration process requires document submission and device binding through the MyDigital ID app.
