Leidos has been awarded a six-year, $249 million Automated Installation Entry (AIE) Next Generation contract by the U.S. Army Contract Command for the Program Executive Office Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors. The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract tasks Leidos with enhancing security measures at 92 Army and select Joint-Service installation access points worldwide.
The project is part of the Army’s broader initiative to improve security and streamline access for personnel and vehicles at its installations. The AIE system developed by Leidos leverages cloud-based technology and biometric modalities to validate digital identities and provide secure, efficient access.
The system is designed to interface with authoritative and law enforcement databases, enabling near real-time updates to authentication requirements based on changing security conditions. Leidos will deploy solutions to expedite access control, aiming to provide seamless pedestrian and vehicle throughput while maintaining high-security standards.
As the primary contractor, Leidos will perform on-site work at the specified installations, with systems engineering and testing conducted primarily at its Edgewood, Maryland facility.
AIE Next Generation is meant to enhance force protection and streamline access control at military installations. The system uses a combination of biographic and biometric data, including Common Access Cards, military IDs, and visitor passes, along with fingerprints and personal identification numbers for authentication.
The program’s origins can be traced back to 2009 when BAE Systems, in partnership with the Army, began developing a unique security system to transform installation entry operations.
