Kansas County Places Large Order for Biometric Temperature Scanners

The video recording specialist Digital Ally has received an order for 42 ThermoVu temperature screening devices from the municipality of Linn County, KS. The contactless devices will be deployed at various public venues, including schools, parks, county offices, and the local courthouse, where they will be used to monitor the health of those entering the facilities.

The ThermoVu takes someone’s temperature at the wrist, and comes with facial recognition capabilities that support access control applications. The devices can be configured to bar entry to those whose faces are not registered with the system, or to block those with an elevated temperature. In the latter instance, the device is intended to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The news comes shortly after Digital Ally provided ThermoVu units for the Major League Soccer team Sporting Kansas City, which installed the units at its Children’s Mercy Park stadium for a match on August 25. Linn County is the first municipality to implement ThermoVu on a community-wide scale. Digital Ally is also based in the state of Kansas.

The ThermoVu, meanwhile, is one of several temperature screening solutions to emerge in the past few months. Sentry Security and VPR launched their own scanners earlier in the summer.
