It’s Mobile World Congress 2018 this week, and FindBiometrics is bringing you coverage from the international conference in Barcelona, reporting live from the exhibition floor.
Peter O’Neill, President of FindBiometrics, caught up with FIDO Alliance Senior Director of Marketing Andrew Shikiar to talk about user authentication, the “password problem”, the mobile first economy, changes to the board at FIDO, and the growing FIDO ecosystem.
“Our number of FIDO certified products have grown from 250 at this time last year, to over 450 today,” said Shikiar.
Shikiar went on to discuss the future of FIDO, specifically the forthcoming FIDO 2 Project: two pronged initiative, that takes FIDO protocols and embeds them as a standard way for strong user authentication for leading web browsers, and implements what FIDO calls C-TAP (Client To Authenticator Protocol) which enables the use to utilize their mobile device as an authentication. Shikiar goes on to outline the longer term goals for FIDO, including IoT solutions to ensure secure user authentication.
