Innovatrics has updated its Digital Onboarding Toolkit (DOT) to improve its utility with passports. The new Universal Passport Reader gives the platform the ability to read any document that meets the ICAO 9303 standard, which will in turn help speed up the remote verification process and assure organizations that the document is authentic.
According to Innovatrics, the Universal Passport Reader will be particularly useful in the travel sector, where organizations can use it to streamline the e-visa issuing process. To use it, people simply need to take a photo of their passport, and Innovatrics’ algorithm will determine whether or not the document is legitimate, and locate the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) to extract the necessary information more quickly. People can also use their smartphone’s NFC capabilities to scan the RFID chip embedded in a modern document.
The Universal Passport Reader is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, in addition to web interfaces. Innovatrics explained that the solution can read an MRZ in as little as half a second, which makes it much faster than comparable solutions that take more than a second. If there are any doubts about the authenticity of a document, Innovatrics’ platform will refer the case to an agent for a manual review.
The dedicated passport feature arrives only a few short weeks after Innovatrics added NFC and MRZ capabilities to the Onboarding Toolkit. The platform itself uses facial recognition to match a selfie to the image on a photo ID during the onboarding process.
For its part, Innovatrics has previously indicated that its remote onboarding technology will be especially appealing to government clients. It has updated the Digital Onboarding Toolkit several times to help meet that demand, and its Optical Character Recognition algorithm now offers support for Bengali and Arabic scripts in addition to traditional Chinese characters.
