Innovatrics has updated its Digital Onboarding Toolkit (DOT) to enable offline document scans. The feature allows people to use the NFC scanner in a standard smartphone to extract the information in a document’s Machine Readable Zone (MRZ), even when that device is not connected to the internet.
The solution is compatible with any identity document that is compliant with the latest ICAO standards. That includes the vast majority of passports, which gives the Innovatrics DOT platform more utility as a border control measure. In that regard, customs agents can use the solution to deliver consistent service despite a spotty network connection.
The DOT platform is compatible with both Android and iOS devices, and extracts the data stored in an RFID chip. That process takes less than 100 milliseconds, at which point the person doing the extracting can cross-reference the information stored in the chip with other sources to make sure that the document (and the identity of its owner) are authentic.
According to Innovatrics, the MRZ parsing feature will make the DOT more appealing to clients in the government sector, and to businesses that want to deliver better digital services to their customers. The DOT platform will perform well in both online and offline modes.
The Digital Onboarding Toolkit is also able to match the image on a document to a selfie of the user through facial recognition. In doing so, it enables remote onboarding and biometric authentication for a wide range of different industries. Innovatrics has updated the DOT platform several times in the past few months, most notably improving its optical character recognition functionality to give it the ability to recognize Chinese, Bengali, and Arabic scripts.
