Innovatrics Releases Improved ABIS and Mobile Enrollment App

Innovatrics has released a new Android app that is designed to streamline biometric enrollment. The app is geared toward law enforcement and election agencies, and was rolled out alongside version 8.2 of the Innovatrics Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).

In practice, the Android app allows stakeholders to capture people’s biometric data while in the field. That data is immediately registered to an ABIS database, and cross-referenced with existing information to ensure that there are no duplicates. If there is a discrepancy, an administrator can look at two images side-by-side to perform a manual review and resolve fringe cases through the ABIS web GUI.

The field agents using the app, meanwhile, can collect people’s biometrics using the sensors that come built into modern tablets and smartphones. However, the app is compatible with third-party USB peripherals, so they can also use dedicated cameras and other biometric devices if they so desire. Innovatrics supports other peripherals to ensure interoperability and to allow clients to use the system without committing to a single vendor. On that front, the ABIS supports biometric readers from Laxton and Coppernic, amongst several others.

ABIS 8.2 itself comes with an enhanced iris recognition algorithm, in addition to new modules and some standard performance upgrades. The system enables mobile biometric registration and identification procedures, through a simple capture process that can be completed alone, or (as is more likely) under the guided supervision of a human agent.

Innovatrics’ iris algorithm is one of the top-ranking solutions in the NIST’s Iris Exchange (IREX) evaluation. The company has already provided ABIS services for police in Guinea, while the new app builds on the multimodal biometric enrollment app that Innovatrics unveiled back in September.
