Palo Alto-based Inpixon has acquired Locality Systems, a Vancouver-based startup specializing in device positioning and radio frequency technology for video surveillance systems.
It appears to be a very good fit. Inpixon offers a flagship solution called “Indoor Positioning Analytics”, which revolves around the use of GPS technology for business intelligence and security purposes; meanwhile Locality Systems has two major offerings: a visitor analytics solution based on Wi-Fi-driven device detection, and an enhanced video surveillance solution that looks for radio waves emitted by wireless devices. The latter enables features such as tracking an individual person of interest, and can be integrated into Video Management Systems to complement other security technologies like biometric facial recognition.
“Inpixon can now offer what we believe is one of the indoor positioning market’s most comprehensive product lines for visitor analytics and physical cyber security,” explained Inpixon CEO Nadir Ali in a statement announcing the acquisition. Ali added later that his team expects the move “to increase the number of new Inpixon customers and to help us capture a significant share of the fast-growing Wi-Fi analytics market”.
The acquisition was conducted through Inpixon’s wholly owned subsidiary Inpixon Canada, and entailed an aggregate cash consideration of about $1.5 million together with 650,000 shares in Inpixon common stock. Locality Systems CEO Kirk Moir and CTO Frank Hallett have joined Inpixon’s team in full-time positions, though the company has not yet announced their specific titles.
