IDnow Certified to Issue Qualified Attribute Attestations Under eIDAS 2.0

IDnow has been certified to issue Qualified Electronic Attestations of Attributes, letting it supply legally recognised credentials attesting to specific facts about a customer, such as a residential address, a tax identification number or a professional qualification.

The certification covers IDnow Trust Services AB, the qualified trust service provider arm of the company, which appointed Philippe Morel as chief executive last month. It followed a conformity assessment specific to attestations of attributes, which included onsite visits and reviews of the evidence trail behind the company’s baseline processes as a trust service provider and behind the attestation service itself. Assessors examined attribute proofing, technical issuance, lifecycle management and IT security against the ETSI EN 319 401 and ETSI TS 119 471 standards, and recorded no non-conformities. The resulting report has gone to Sweden’s Post- och telestyrelsen, the supervisory body that grants qualified status and enters a provider on the EU Trust List.

A qualified attestation of attributes is a credential recognised across the European Union that vouches for one personal or organisational attribute. Unlike a paper certificate it is machine-readable, verifiable on the spot and reusable. IDnow said its attestations can be delivered into an organisation’s existing onboarding flow or issued into a European Digital Identity Wallet.

The company tied the move to the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation, which requires obliged entities to collect and verify a range of customer attributes by July 10, 2027. Some national electronic identity schemes and some digital identity wallets will not supply all of those attributes as part of the standard set of person identification data, leaving a gap between what a bank must verify and what the identity system in front of it can produce. IDnow said its service closes that gap through a single integration that combines identity verification, attribute proofing and issuance, with each attribute proofed against an authentic or authoritative source and the attestation issued through its own trust service provider.

“AMLR doesn’t just ask organisations to know who their customer is, it asks them to prove specific facts about that customer, and today’s identity infrastructure wasn’t built to do that consistently across Europe,” said Johannes Leser, managing director of IDnow Trust Services.

The 2027 deadline has pulled other vendors toward the same layer. Sproof launched a white-label, wallet-ready identity layer for the AML era earlier this year.
