IDEX Biometrics has received an order from DigAware, a product company of Emnovate, for biometric sensor systems designed for physical access solutions. The systems will serve enterprises in the United States and globally, with biometric authentication executed locally on the card – a security feature that keeps sensitive biometric data contained within the card itself rather than stored on external servers.
The agreement includes development of a customized biometric matching solution compatible with DigAware’s card architecture, which incorporates Bluetooth and RFID radios. Development work is scheduled for completion in Q1 2025, after which DigAware plans to purchase 50,000 sensor systems from IDEX Biometrics upon customer acceptance.
“The IDEX Biometrics authentication system excels with its resource efficiency and performance,” said Robin Bienfait, CEO and Founder of DigAware. “Partnering with IDEX Biometrics enables us to effectively meet the rapidly expanding demands of our customer base for state-of-the-art physical security solutions.”
Petter Andersson, Global Head of Sales for IDEX Biometrics, stated that the company will support DigAware by leveraging their core platform’s competitive advantages, enabling customization of their biometric system. This approach aligns with the growing enterprise demand for enhanced physical access security through biometric authentication.
The implementation aims to enhance employee ID functionality and security while improving productivity. The solution allows organizations to upgrade their security infrastructure without requiring complete system replacement, a significant advantage as enterprises increasingly seek to modernize their access control systems.
IDEX Biometrics, founded in 1996 in Oslo, Norway, has evolved from its origins in fingerprint identification technologies to become a provider of end-to-end biometric solutions. The company introduced its SmartFinger Film technology in 2010, enabling fingerprint sensors to be integrated into plastic cards. In 2013, IDEX expanded its capabilities through the acquisition of PicoField Technologies, incorporating additional touch fingerprint sensor technology.
The company’s recent developments include the 2021 launch of TrustedBio, a new generation of sensors for the card market, and expansion into Asian markets for biometric payment and smart card applications. IDEX maintains partnerships with major technology and payment companies including Mastercard, IDEMIA, and Infineon, with its biometric payment solutions receiving certification from major payment networks for global deployment.
This latest order represents a significant step in IDEX’s enterprise security portfolio, building on the company’s established presence in payment card biometrics and expanding its reach in the physical access control market.
