Identy.io has announced expansion plans targeting Kenya and Nigeria with a software-first, smartphone-oriented biometric strategy designed to reduce reliance on specialized hardware procurement for digital identity programs.
The company’s approach supports biometric capture on standard smartphones, document processing, and large-scale verification and deduplication workflows, according to a February 10 announcement. Identy describes its platform as minimizing dependency on dedicated biometric hardware by enabling mobile-first capture for enrollment and authentication.
Identy’s MOSIP marketplace entry leans on credibility signals such as Identy.io’s ISO 30107-3 Level 2 PAD certification, which proves the mobile capture stack can defend against spoofing attacks. The expansion story is backed by technical wins like Identy.io’s perfect score in iBeta Level 2 liveness testing, which the company cites when courting MOSIP-aligned programs.
The Kenya and Nigeria push follows Identy’s executive hires announced last October, which signaled a more aggressive expansion strategy across emerging markets. The company also references prior MOSIP partner compliance and marketplace listing for its ABIS capabilities, documented in a December 2025 certification announcement.
For digital identity programs and private onboarding flows in emerging markets, software-first capture models can speed deployments by allowing governments and enterprises to use existing smartphone infrastructure rather than procuring and distributing specialized biometric readers. The approach also reduces upfront capital expenditure and can simplify field operations in regions with limited technical support infrastructure.
The MOSIP partner program continues to expand, as seen in NCINGA’s MOSIP certification last year, which mirrors Identy’s recent approval and marketplace listing. MOSIP-compliant solutions are increasingly sought by governments building national identity systems in Africa and Asia.
