iDenfy has integrated Norway’s BankID into its identity verification platform, allowing customers to offer the country’s established electronic identity as an onboarding and authentication method.
The connection gives a user the option to authenticate with an existing BankID credential instead of completing a new document-and-selfie process for every participating service. The verified result can then enter the wider iDenfy workflow alongside document checks, biometrics and risk screening.
BankID is issued through Norwegian banks and is used for access to public services, financial accounts and private-sector applications. The organization reports 4.6 million users, approximately 900 million transactions each year and coverage of 99 percent of Norway’s adult population.
The service supports different assurance levels according to the authentication method. BankID with biometric authentication is classified at the substantial level under the European eIDAS framework, while the password-based method is classified at the high level.
For businesses entering Norway, supporting the local credential can reduce the amount of identity information they need to collect directly. The relying service receives an authenticated identity through a familiar user flow, while BankID and its issuing institutions maintain the credential.
iDenfy lists the Norwegian service as BANK_ID_NO in its supported identity methods. Customers can include it in a configured verification journey and use other checks when a person does not have BankID or when a transaction calls for additional evidence.
The integration continues iDenfy’s expansion across European electronic identities. The company recently added SIM-based Mobile-ID for Estonia and Lithuania, using credentials stored on a subscriber identity module for authentication and signing.
It has also integrated Smart-ID for Baltic markets. Together, those connections let businesses present a national or regional eID where it is widely adopted while retaining iDenfy’s document verification for other users and countries.
Reusable eIDs can shorten onboarding because the individual has already enrolled with an identity provider. They also shift part of the assurance decision to the credential issuer, making it important for a relying business to select a BankID method whose assurance level matches the transaction.
