iDenfy Adds Smart-ID to Its Identity Verification Platform for Baltic Markets

iDenfy has integrated Smart-ID into its electronic identity verification platform, enabling businesses to verify customers from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia using their mobile digital identities without requiring physical document scans during onboarding.

Smart-ID is a widely used mobile authentication and digital signing tool across the Baltic states, with approximately 3.75 million active users: roughly 1.6 million in Lithuania, 1 million in Latvia, and 730,000 in Estonia. The service allows users to authenticate to online services and sign documents electronically with legal equivalence to handwritten signatures under EU eIDAS regulations.

The integration enables iDenfy’s clients to offer a document-free verification path for Baltic customers. Rather than scanning a passport or national ID card, users can authenticate through Smart-ID’s two-step PIN entry or biometric confirmation process. iDenfy says this reduces friction in customer onboarding while maintaining the high assurance level required by eIDAS standards.

Smart-ID holds eIDAS High assurance certification, the highest recognized level under the EU’s electronic identification framework. That certification positions the service within the broader regulatory trajectory set by eIDAS 2.0, which requires all 27 EU member states to make at least one EU Digital Identity Wallet available to citizens by the end of 2026 and obliges banks, payment institutions, and electronic money providers to accept wallet-based credentials for Strong Customer Authentication.

The addition gives iDenfy’s platform both document-based and mobile credential-based verification within a single system. iDenfy, which added NFC-based biometric data reading from ePassports and smart card chips, has been expanding its verification capabilities beyond traditional document scanning. The company has also launched a partner program to expand the reach of its identity verification services.

iDenfy serves clients across sectors including financial services, cryptocurrency exchanges, and telecommunications, providing identity verification, fraud prevention, and anti-money laundering compliance tools. The company operates in more than 200 countries.
