iDenfy Adds SIM-Based Mobile-ID Verification for Estonia and Lithuania

iDenfy has added Mobile-ID verification for Estonia and Lithuania, giving businesses a SIM-based way to confirm a customer’s identity in the two Baltic markets without asking for a document scan. The option sits alongside iDenfy’s existing document capture and its recently added Smart-ID support, extending the set of country-specific electronic identity methods the platform can route users through.

Mobile-ID works from the SIM rather than the camera. The method uses a credential resident on the user’s SIM card and a personal PIN to authenticate, drawing on infrastructure that Estonian and Lithuanian residents already use for online services and digital signing, and it returns verified attributes such as name and nationality without the user uploading a passport or ID card. iDenfy says the method carries eIDAS High assurance, the level equivalent to EU-recognized national identity schemes, and is available to its clients at no additional cost.

The feature is built into iDenfy’s routing logic rather than offered as a standalone flow. When document capture is unavailable or fails because of image quality or lighting, the platform can redirect a user to the SIM-based path, and where Mobile-ID is not available it can fall back to Smart-ID or document-based verification. That layering is meant to keep an onboarding session from dead-ending when one method does not work for a given user.

“We know how important a customized, native experience is,” said Domantas Ciulde, Chief Executive Officer of iDenfy, pointing to the company’s roots in Lithuania as the reason it has prioritized country-specific onboarding options that local users already trust. The Baltic states have an unusually high rate of electronic-ID use, which makes SIM- and app-based methods a practical alternative to document scans there.

The addition builds directly on iDenfy’s recent Baltic work. The company added Smart-ID to its platform for the Baltic markets, covering the widely used mobile authentication tool across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, and the new Mobile-ID support comes as Estonia rolls out new Thales-backed eID cards, part of the region’s broader digital-identity infrastructure.
