IDEMIA Renews Biometrics Contract with Australia’s Largest Police Force

IDEMIA has extended its business relationship with Australia’s New South Wales Police Force, with the two parties agreeing to a six-year contract for the support and maintenance of IDEMIA’s LiveScan fingerprint reader solution.

The LiveScan readers are already in place in 142 police stations across the state of New South Wales, and are used to register criminals’ biometric data during processing. It’s a major deployment, with New South Wales serving a population of 7.5 million as Australia’s largest police force.

Beyond NSW, IDEMIA says its LiveScan solution is also being used in the states of Victoria, Queensland, and the Northern Territory, marking the company’s considerable reach across the Australian law enforcement market.

Commenting on the new agreement in a statement, IDEMIA’s Asia Pacific President and Senior Vice President for Public Security and Identity, Tim Ferris, emphasized his firm’s longstanding relationship with the New South Wales Police Force, which extends back through the corporate history of Safran’s identity and security business before its merger with Oberthur Technologies to form IDEMIA.

“This contract strengthens a long-term partnership that we have had with the New South Wales Police Force for over two decades,” he said. “This collaboration proves IDEMIA’s capacity to provide critical support and maintenance when it comes to integrating multiple biometrics technology to increase national security and support efficient police services.”
