Florida Certifies HID Global Fingerprint System for Law Enforcement

July 13, 2022

HID Global’s RAPID ID fingerprint capture system has officially been cleared for use in the state of Florida. The certification comes courtesy of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), and it will give officers in the state an easy way to match fingerprints while in the field.

Florida Certifies HID Global Fingerprint System for Law Enforcement

To that end, the RAPID ID system utilizes the HID NOMAD 30 mobile fingerprint scanner, and combines it with the HID ArcID Mobile app and HID Commander software. Officers can use the NOMAD to capture prints, and then tap a button on the app to submit those prints to find a potential match. The ArcID app can run on a standard smartphone, and is designed to make the user experience as simple and straightforward as possible.

The prints themselves are cross-referenced with FDLE’s FALCON Integrated Criminal History System and the FBI’s Repository for Individuals of Special Concern (RISC) database. Both databases contain the fingerprints of criminals and other suspicious individuals. RAPID ID will let officers know if a new fingerprint matches one already on file, and whether or not there is an arrest warrant out for that person. Alternatively, it will let officers know if a print has not generated any kind of hit.

In most cases, RAPID ID will return a result in only a few minutes. The NOMAD is a two-print capture device, and can be used in a wide range of rugged outdoor environments. For example, the device can capture the prints of those whose hands are dirty, sweaty, or worn down, and can function even when the device itself is dusty, or when it is sitting in direct sunlight.

The software in the RAPID ID solution ensures that all prints are transmitted in a secure fashion. The product is compliant with the federal and state-level security regulations, and with the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) standard. The HID NOMAD reader took the prize for Best Law Enforcement Mobile Device at the 2020 ASTORS Homeland Security awards.
